The world is still reeling from the tragic loss of One Direction heartthrob Liam Payne, who died after a harrowing fall from his hotel suite’s third floor in Buenos Aires, Argentina, at the young age of 31. As fans mourn, poignant details of Liam’s final moments have surfaced, including his touching last wish to make the vibrant city of Buenos Aires his home.
Devoted fan Diana Gauna shared her emotional encounter with the star at his boutique hotel lobby around 3 p.m. on October 16, where he expressed his deep affection for the city. Speaking on the Argentinian TV show TN Central, she said: “Liam looked in good shape, not drunk or aggressive like they’ve been saying on social media. He approached us and spent quite a bit of time talking to us and telling us about his experiences in Buenos Aires, the places he’d been to and where he wanted to go. He said he loved the city and would like to buy a home here, that he loved the countryside around Buenos Aires.”
Gauna also recounted how Liam had enjoyed the local countryside with his girlfriend, adding, “Liam also told us during the conversation that he’d been to the countryside with his girlfriend, that on Sunday morning about 7am they’d gone out running together. He told us he was really enjoying Buenos Aires.”
Diana, who was present in Casa Sur Palermo Hotel at the time of the incident, noticed something odd when she “began to see strange movements and a police patrol car and fire engine turned up.” She confessed her shock upon discovering that the father-of-one had been found dead: “I never thought it was Liam because I had seen him just over an hour earlier and he seemed okay.”
Overwhelmed with emotion, Diana added, “Finding out someone is dead that you’ve just seen was really shocking. He was my idol. Liam spoke a lot about mental health and in his songs told us we are never alone. This is all very hard. As fans we are in a lot of pain,” reports the Mirror.
There’s been no evidence found by prosecutors to suggest third-party involvement in the tragic death of Liam, though investigations continue. Argentine media report that traces of cocaine were detected in the singer’s body during the autopsy.
Infobae stated that materials taken from the body confirmed “determined the presence of the class-A drug.”
Reports from ABC News point out that among those substances was “pink cocaine,” which is known to be a concoction incorporating drugs such as MDMA, ketamine, methamphetamine, cocaine, benzodiazepine, and crack.
Liam’s devastated father, Geoff, who immediately flew to Argentina following his son’s tragic death, has pledged to stay with him until he can bring him back to the UK. However, Prosecutor Andres Esteban Madrea, who is leading the investigation into Liam’s death, has cautioned Geoff that it could take up to ten days for the examination results to be confirmed, and only then can Liam be repatriated to the UK.
