Sean “Diddy” Combs would have to take the stand and plead his case.
Diddy was recently arrested and charged with racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking, and transportation to engage in prostitution. He has denied all allegations, pleaded not guilty and is currently awaiting trial on May 5, 2025. The music mogul is being held at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn, New York.
A lawyer who represented Johnny Depp in his trial against his ex-wife Amber Heard in 2022, appeared on Piers Morgan Uncensored and gave his thoughts on Diddy’s trial. Heard accused Depp of domestic violence and violent threats, which Johnny denied, and launched defamation lawsuits in both the United States and the United Kingdom.

Benjamin Chew, the attorney who represented Depp, gave his expert advice on what would be best for Diddy to do. He said that because of a video showing Diddy dragging, hitting and kicking his ex-girlfriend Cassie Ventura at the now-closed InterContinental Hotel in California, it will “force” the hip-hop producer to testify. Right after the video was leaked, Diddy posted an apology video on his Instagram.
Chew said: “Thats going to force him to testify, and I think hes going to have to do an awful lot better than he did in that apology video if hes going to convince one or two jurors to hang that jury. I dont like his chances… Video is so damaging at any trial, whether its criminal or civil, because its hard to explain away.”
The lawyer believes that Diddy would have to explain what happened and say that “he was terribly sorry for it, but that was an aberration; thats not who he is.”
Chew added: “He has to own it and say, ‘I did a horrible thing. Ill regret it the rest of my life, but that doesnt mean that I engaged in sex trafficking.’ Hes got to look the jury in the eye and say that and say it convincingly.”
The legal expert also believes that Diddy would have to show emotion, and not testifying could be “damning.” To Depp’s attorney, Diddy has to “really take responsibility, not just mouth the words. When he said he was sorry, it didnt ring true. I would like to see more emotion there.
