Little did Adele know that the person she was dressed up as was going to be at her show.
During a Weekends with Adele Las Vegas residency show on Friday, November 1, the Someone Like You singer made her way through the crowd while dressed up as Madeline Ashton, a character played by Meryl Streep in the 1992 film, Death Becomes Her. Adele wore a silver jacket like the one Meryl’s character wore, paired with black pants, a blonde wig and silver necklace.
While singing When We Were Young, Adele spotted Meryl in the crowd and the two shared a moment. The singer told Meryl, “love you.” Meryl then blew a kiss at Adele as she walked away.

The video went viral and many fans shared their excitement about the moment shared. One person on X, formerly known as Twitter, wrote: “Two of the very best of their respective fields.” Another person wrote: “Adeles Halloween tribute to Streep is iconic!” A third user posted: “That’s such a fun Halloween idea! Adele and Meryl Streep together must have made for an unforgettable moment, especially with that classic character! What a creative way to celebrate!” A fourth wrote: “That sounds like an iconic Halloween moment! Adele and Meryl Streep together is a fantastic combination of talent and creativity.”
This surprise appearance comes after Celine Dion was spotted in the audience at Adele’s show. Adele was seen in tears when she saw Celine and the two shared an emotional hug. The audience was cheering the two on when Celine then kissed Adele’s hand before sitting down and dabbed her teary eyes with a tissue.
Dressed in all black, Adele addressed her fans: “Give it up for Miss Celine Dion.”
Nasser, an audience member who captured the moment on his phone, told BBC News: “This truly felt like she was proudly handing the keys to Adele. And when Adele gave her that hug, everyone felt what they felt.”
Celine performed at the Colosseum Theater at Caesars Palace, where Adele has performed her residency, in 2002 to 2003.
