In a different world, Saoirse Ronan would have been in, well, the Wizarding World.

On Thursday, Saoirse appeared on Jimmy Kimmel Live! to promote her new film, The Outrun.

During their conversation, Jimmy asked her if there were roles she wished she had gotten or hadn’t turned down.

It was then that Saoirse revealed she auditioned for Luna Lovegood in Harry Potter years ago.

Saoirse said the role is “one that stayed” with her all these years.

“It was like the Irish character, so they got everyone Irish in. Like half of Ireland to come and audition,” she said. “I knew I wasn’t going to get it because I was too young.”

Luna first appeared in the fifth film, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and again in the following three sequels.

Saoirse was 13 when Order of the Phoenix came out in 2007. “I got to read out a scene that was going to be in Harry Potter, and it was the coolest thing ever,” she said.

As fans know, the role went to Evanna Lynch.

Things turned out quite alright for Saoirse, a four-time Oscar nominee.

In fact, 2007 was the same year she broke through with a notable role in the Keira Knightley film adaption of writer Ian McEwan’s novel, Atonement.

Saoirse received her first Oscar nomination for the role.
