DK Metcalf’s offseason has been nothing short of a whirlwind. Just days after being traded to the Pittsburgh Steelers in a blockbuster deal, the star wide receiver made another major life announcement—his engagement to longtime girlfriend, R&B singer Normani.
Metcalf, 27, revealed the exciting news during his introductory press conference with the Steelers on Thursday, sharing details about his heartfelt proposal that took place the night before in Houston.
“Hold that rock up, baby,” Metcalf affectionately said to his fiancée while addressing reporters.
The proposal, which took place with both of their families present, had been in the works for quite some time, as Metcalf admitted he originally planned to pop the question last year. However, the couple’s busy schedules—especially Normani’s commitments to her music career—delayed the big moment.

“I tried to last year,” Metcalf explained. “But she is a singer, and her work kind of conflicted with the schedule. So I just tried to take an approach where a schedule didn’t matter.”
The wide receiver ultimately opted for a thoughtful and romantic gesture leading up to the proposal, revealing how he gradually built up to the moment.
“I started sending flowers with a story,” Metcalf shared. “And the last letter on the flower was ‘Will you marry me?’—and she said yes.”
Metcalf and Normani have been together since 2022, keeping much of their relationship private while occasionally sharing glimpses of their romance on social media.
The engagement comes at a pivotal moment in Metcalf’s career. On Sunday, the Steelers orchestrated a major trade to acquire the Pro Bowl wideout from the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a second-round pick. The move signaled Pittsburgh’s commitment to strengthening their offense, and they doubled down by signing Metcalf to a lucrative five-year, $150 million contract extension.
Metcalf, who spent the first six years of his career in Seattle after being drafted in the second round of the 2019 NFL Draft out of Ole Miss, expressed his enthusiasm about joining the Steelers organization.
“Coach Tomlin, Mr. Omar [Khan], and Mr. [Art] Rooney all hopped on the phone with me Sunday, and it just felt homey and welcoming that they wanted to bring me to this historic organization,” Metcalf said. “Everything snowballed from there and brought me in front of you today.”
Now, as he embarks on a new chapter in his football career, Metcalf is also preparing for an exciting new chapter in his personal life. With a fresh start in Pittsburgh and a wedding on the horizon, this offseason is shaping up to be one Metcalf will never forget.
