Pacman Jones has never been one to shy away from controversy, and his latest revelation about cheating the NFL’s drug testing system is just another chapter in his long history of headline-grabbing moments.
During a recent appearance on Deion Sanders’ “We Got Time Today” show, the former NFL cornerback made a bold claim about how he managed to avoid failing drug tests throughout his playing career. According to Jones, he consistently used THC, the active ingredient in cannabis, despite it being a banned substance in the league’s substance abuse policy. Yet, he never once failed a test—because, as he put it, he never actually used his own urine for them.
“I’ve Never Used My Own Piss for a Test”
Jones, known for his brash personality, openly admitted to gaming the system throughout his career.
“I was really good,” Jones said, via The Athletic’s Jayna Bardahl. “People don’t know how smart I am, but I could say it now, I don’t play no more. I’ve never used my piss for a piss test. Not one time. Not one time.”
He even suggested that if he were still playing today, he could get away with it again because of how well he had perfected the process.
“It can happen if you know what you’re doing. Don’t say it can’t happen, Pop.”
Jones’ comments raise plenty of questions about the effectiveness of the NFL’s drug testing system at the time and how many other players might have used similar tactics to evade detection.

A History of Off-Field Troubles
For those familiar with Jones’ career, this latest revelation isn’t exactly shocking. His off-field issues were well-documented throughout his 12-year NFL run, and he was suspended multiple times—though never for violating the league’s substance abuse policy. His troubles included multiple arrests, legal disputes, and a year-long suspension in 2007 for his involvement in a Las Vegas strip club incident that ended in a shooting.
Despite his turbulent past, Jones still managed to carve out a successful career, spending most of his time with the Cincinnati Bengals and earning first-team All-Pro honors in 2014. His ability to stay on the field despite his admitted drug use suggests that whatever system he had in place was remarkably effective.
Life After Football and Continued Legal Issues
While Jones may have successfully avoided a failed drug test during his playing days, his legal troubles have continued in retirement. In recent years, he has been arrested on assault and disorderly conduct charges, including an altercation at an airport in 2021.
Though he remains a controversial figure, Jones’ latest admission about beating the NFL’s testing program adds another fascinating layer to his already infamous legacy.
Whether the league has since tightened its policies or if similar methods are still being used today remains an open question—but Jones clearly believes he could still outsmart the system if given the chance.
