New York – Authorities are actively searching for multiple shooters following a violent incident at a Brooklyn lounge that left three people dead and nine others injured.

Police say the shooting, which took place just before 3:30 a.m. at Taste of the City in Crown Heights, was linked to a gang-related dispute. New York City Police Commissioner Jessica Tisch confirmed that 12 victims have now been identified, up from the initial count of 11.

Responding officers discovered a 19-year-old man dead at the scene. Two other men, aged 27 and 35, succumbed to their injuries after being hospitalized. The remaining nine victims sustained non-life-threatening injuries and are currently receiving medical care. The ages of the victims range from 19 to 61.

Commissioner Tisch noted that some of those injured may have been directly involved in the altercation, while others were likely bystanders. She emphasized that the investigation is still ongoing and that these details are preliminary. Police continue to search for the suspects involved and urge anyone with information to come forward.

Located on Franklin Ave. in Crown Heights, Taste of the City says it offers food, cocktails, hookah, and entertainment nightly.

With no suspects in custody, police are now searching for as many as four shooters they believe were involved in the incident. Detectives found 42 shell casings at the scene from 9 mm and .45 caliber weapons, Tisch said.

Police were working to determine whether a firearm found in the vicinity was connected to the shooting, the commissioner said early Sunday.

New York Mayor Eric Adams urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward.

The mayor also said he has mobilized police and community partners to work closely with the victims, their families, and friends to prevent any potential retaliatory violence.

“We’re always concerned after a shooting that retaliatory attacks could follow if we don’t respond immediately with our crisis management team and partner organizations,” Mayor Adams said.

Commissioner Tisch noted that while more than half of the city’s shootings are linked to gang activity, this particular incident remains an “anomaly” in New York, where overall shootings have been declining.

She highlighted that the city is experiencing “the lowest number of shooting incidents and shooting victims seven months into the year that we’ve seen on record in New York City.”

Nonetheless, this latest incident follows a series of shootings over the summer, including one earlier this month in Times Square that left three people injured, and a high-profile shooting in a Manhattan skyscraper in July that killed four.

According to data from the Gun Violence Archive, there have been 272 mass shootings in the United States so far this year. Like CNN, the archive defines a mass shooting as an event in which four or more people are injured, excluding the shooter.

Notably, in November 2024, a shooting occurred outside the same Brooklyn address as Sunday’s attack. Police reports at the time indicated that a 28-year-old was hospitalized in stable condition after being shot in the back and arm.
