Dogs set to look woofing wonderful this Christmas

March 16, 2024 by Pham Hien

Ready for christmas

As we step towards the festive season, our pets are set to be pampered from head to paw as we prepare for Christmas get-togethers with friends and family – with over a third (37 per cent) of us inviting our four-legged friends along too.

And, according to FURminator, experts in pet grooming, half of Brits plan to spend just as much on their dog’s beauty prep as they do their own, while a barking mad 1 in 10 owners will go the extra mile spending upwards of £150! This comes as over a third of owners will take their pet away with them on a festive trip, with 40 per cent claiming they’d sacrifice going abroad if it meant their four-legged friend could join them.

When it comes to our beauty prep hair care is the main priority with haircuts and highlights being revealed as the most popular treatments undertaken by Brits, while a bath, blow dry and groom tops the list for pets this Christmas.

Grooming is a hugely important part of pet ownership as not only does it help to boost the bond you have with your pet but also ensures any dead hair is removed and natural oils are released from within the skin to improve coat health and shine. That said, it’s important to implement a regular grooming routine to ensure our pets are always looking their best. Home grooming can be a really effective way of supporting your pet’s health and wellbeing together with trips to your local groomers.

Help your dog to stay happy and healthy this Christmas with top grooming tips below for the UK’s most popular breeds:

Staffies
The great thing about Staffies is that they are low maintenance when it comes to grooming. A trip to the groomers every 4-6 weeks will keep their coat looking healthy and shiny.
TOP TIP – Get a FURminator undercoat deShedding tool for home grooming and they’ll think it’s a fun game too!

Cockapoos
Their hair grows and grows so it’s really important to stay on top of their grooming with a daily brush and comb. A 6-weekly haircut at the groomers is also essential, with a bath in between appointments too!
TOP TIP – If your Cockapoo gets wet on a walk, use a hairdryer and brush once indoors – this will help keep on top of knots and matting.

Labrador Retrievers
Did you know that shedding depends on colour with chocolate and cream labs tending to shed more than black labs? Keep your house from becoming a hair haven with regular use of a FURminator deShedding tool together with a professional grooming appointment every 6 weeks.
TOP TIP – Home grooming once a week for at least 10-20 minutes can reduce shedding by 99 per cent!
