Switch-hitting outfielder Ian Happ continued his power surge on Saturday, blasting two homers in consecutive innings at Wrigley Field. With that, Happ not only earned his third multi-homer game of the season but also surpassed former Cubs star Kris Bryant, moving into 15th place on Chicago’s all-time home run leaderboard with 161 career long balls.

Happ wasted no time, launching a leadoff homer on the very first pitch of the game—his second straight leadoff blast and the first Cub to do it since Anthony Rizzo in 2017

He followed it up with a three-run shot in the second inning, extending the Cubs’ early lead. Reflecting on the milestone, Happ said, “Really cool … anytime you’re on a list with those guys — names of all‑time Cubs greats — it’s really cool.”

Happ’s hot streak continues a dramatic turnaround after a quiet start to June. After struggling with just three homers through mid-May, he has now hit eight in 15 games, including 11 on the season so far.

Highly regarded for his consistency both at the plate and in the field—earning three straight Gold Gloves—Happ is proving to be one of the most underappreciated yet vital Cubs of the current era.
His steady production, including 161 career homers, .343 OBP, and .449 slugging, shows he isn’t just matching franchise legends—he’s joining them.

For the Cubs, Happ’s resurgence couldn’t come at a better time. As they pursue playoff contention, his consistent power and veteran leadership are proving to be a game-changer. And as hometown fans celebrate his latest achievement, Happ’s name is etched ever deeper into Chicago’s baseball legacy.
