Sean “P. Diddy” Combs is currently incarcerated in a special housing unit at the Metropolitan Detention Center (MDC) in Brooklyn after being denied bail for the second time. The 54-year-old rapper faces serious charges, including racketeering conspiracy, sex trafficking by force, fraud, or coercion, and transportation for prostitution. Diddy has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

His attorney, Marc Agnifilo, revealed that the special housing unit provides an “extra layer of security” and separates Diddy from the general prison population. Although Agnifilo requested a transfer to a New Jersey facility, a judge stated that the Bureau of Prisons ultimately decides inmate placements.

The MDC is notorious for its harsh conditions, housing around 1,600 inmates. Since 2021, it has served as New York City’s primary federal detention center, taking over after the closure of the Metropolitan Correctional Center. The facility has garnered a reputation as “hell on earth,” with reports of violence, lockdowns, and stabbings becoming commonplace.

Diddy’s legal team has highlighted the deteriorating conditions in a motion for bail, referencing alarming incidents like the recent murder of inmate Uriel Whyte, who was stabbed to death while awaiting trial on gun charges. Additionally, reports have emerged of suicides, unsanitary conditions such as cockroach infestations, mold in the showers, and overflowing toilets, painting a grim picture of life inside the MDC.

Notably, the MDC has housed high-profile inmates like R. Kelly and Ghislaine Maxwell, who also reported poor treatment, including allegations of inadequate food and unsanitary living conditions. As Diddy awaits trial, his legal team continues to advocate for his rights and safety amid these troubling reports.
