Rachael Ray wasn’t able to do her favorite household tasks after an injury.
On the first episode of her new podcast, I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead, Ray, 56, told guest Jenny Mollen that she had a few “bad falls” that kept her from working around the house.
“I really like chores,” said Ray. “I like what people consider physical work. I like making dinner, planning dinners, making lists. I love physical labor, helping carry in the wood.”
“I’ve had a couple of bad falls in the last couple of weeks, so I haven’t been doing that in a while,” she continued.
The episode aired on Oct. 22 but was likely recorded in advance. Ray appeared in good spirits at the Food Network New York City Wine & Food Festival a few days earlier on Oct. 18 to host her annual Burger Bash event. There, she took the stage with her husband, John Cusimano.
She hosted the event on stage and helped announce the winner of the annual burger competition. “Thank you all for coming out,” she told the crowd.

Ray and Cusimano, a musician and lawyer, tied the knot in 2005. During her podcast conversation with Mollen, the celebrity cook and TV host also opened up about how she and her longtime husband resolve arguments.
“It’s very hard, especially for hot-tempered or creative or vociferous loud people to be able to just calm it down,” she said. “John and I don’t calm it down ever. We have huge screaming matches all the time, but I think that’s healthy. I really do. And I don’t trust people that are too quiet.”
“Too quiet freaks me out,” Ray added. “I prefer that you tell me what you think when you think it and let’s just get it all out there.”
Mollen then asked Ray who is usually the first to apologize.

“I don’t know that we ever apologize to each other,” Ray replied. “Eventually I pat him on his ass or he kisses me on the head, and that’s just sort of it. That’s the apology. It’s just sort of understood. ‘I still like your ass.’ ‘I still like your head.’ It’s kind of in that zone.”
Ray announced that she was launching her first podcast on Oct. 15, sharing the news exclusively with PEOPLE. I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead explores “what fuels us — our drive, resilience, and how we face life’s challenges,” per a press release for the new project.
The announcement added that the series will feature a “melting pot” of discussions with celebrities, chefs, artists, musicians and other familiar faces — with ”no topic off-limits.”
“I’ll Sleep When I’m Dead (quite literally!) is about life’s journeys and what keeps us going,” Ray said in a statement. “It’s unscripted, raw, and real talk. Working fuels me, connecting with people fuels me, and this platform allows for connection and conversation on a more personal level, which really fuels me.”
