Shawn Mendes opened up to his fans about his sexuality.
The singer-songwriter has brushed off critics and commentary on his life in a new song, including the long-running speculation about his sexuality. On Monday, October 28 at his For Friends and Family Tour in Colorado, Shawn addressed his sexuality to fans during an intimate moment.
In a video posted on TikTok, he said: “I was really young when I started. I was 15 years old. The truth is that I didnt get to do a lot of 15-year-old things and discover parts of myself that you do at 15. Theres this thing about my sexuality, and people have been talking about it so long.”

He continued: “Kind of silly, because I think sexuality is such a beautifully complex thing, and its so hard to just put into boxes. It always felt like such an intrusion on something very personal to me. Something that I was figuring out in myself, something that I had yet to discover and still have yet to discover it.”
Shawn got candid and said: “The real truth about my life and my sexuality is that, man, Im just figuring it out like everyone. I dont really know sometimes and I know other times. And it feels really scary because we live in a society that has a lot to say about that. And Im trying to be really brave and just allow myself to be a human and feel things. And thats all I really want to say about that for now.”
He then began to sing his unreleased song. The Mountain, a song he has been playing throughout his tour. The lyrics go, “You can say Im too young/You can say Im too old/You can say I like girls or boys, whatever fits your mold.” This comes as a surprise to some since he dated Camila Cabello for two years.
Shawn admitted that this was one of his “favorite” songs from his new album that is set to release on November 15. The album was originally set to be released on October 18.
